A Little History

Rudy’s Cabins and Campground, LLC is an 80+ year old, family owned business nestled
in the Great North Woods of NH. Our 96 acres, with a 23 acre fly fishing pond insures
the solitude, peace and quiet lacking so much in today’s busy world.
Rudy’s was founded in 1938 by a local boy named, Rudy Shatney, whose family has
deep roots here in the North Country. Even though he was only 16 years old when he
purchased the first two cabins and some acreage, Rudy was a very experienced
woodsman, fly fisherman and hunter and applied his knowledge and trade to making a
living guiding folks from out of the area and providing lodging.
When Rudy was 19, Pearl Harbor happened and forced the US into WWII. Even though
he did not have to, because he was an only child, Rudy enlisted in the US Army and
proudly served his country. While stationed in southern England training for D-Day,
Rudy met the love of his life Joan Jerome. They kept in touch after he was shipped out
through letter writing. After D-Day when he knew he was going to make it home he sent
Joan a letter asking her to marry. So on August 11 th , 1946 Joan Jerome became Joan
Shatney. Two days later Rudy was shipped state-side and Joan came 9 months and the
rest is history. I would like to make note at this time that Rudy was honorably discharged,
receiving two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for going above and beyond the call of
duty.

 

Rudy’s Today

Today Rudy’s is owned and operated by Rudy and Joan’s daughter Kathleen and husband
John. Rudy’s has a bit of a different look to keep up with the changing times. We only
have one cabin we rent and please excuse our mess as we are building more to replace the
old ones that have been torn down. Rudy’s is now mainly a seasonal RV park with a
few sites for overnight guests. All our sites have power, sewer and water with the
overnight sites 30 or 50 amp service. $45.00 per night 30amp and $50.00 per night 50
amp. Our Seasonal sites are currently booked, however, we do have a waiting list.
Rudy’s is situated on the shoreline of Clarksville Pond, which is fly fishing only. The
shoreline of the pond is 99% owned by Rudy’s and every year has a nesting pair of Loons
and a nesting pair of Canadian Geese. If you are not a fisherman the pond is great for
kayaking, canoeing and row boats and has an electric motor only policy. There is also a
dock with seating for viewing the pond for our RV guests and a canopy area just behind
the dock for seating in the shade.
Rudy’s has a new handicapped accessible bathhouse with a handicapped shower, toilet
grab bars and free standing sink for wheel chair access. Showers are coin operated and
there is also a coin operated laundry mat. We do not have a laundry soap dispenser yet.
The First and; Last Cabin is situated on the shoreline of the pond with a private dock and
fire pit. The cabin has 3 bedrooms, 1 Queen, 1 Full size, and a set of twins. It also has a
glassed in porch that overlooks the pond which is particularly nice for the evening sunset.
All linens, towels, dishes, pots and pans and cooking utensils, microwave and coffee
maker are provided. There is Dish TV and soon broadband.
The nightly rate for up to 4 people is $200.00 per night plus 9%tax.
